昆曲是中國戲曲的劇種之一，發源於元末明初的蘇州府昆山縣，起初流行於江南一帶，後風靡全國。明朝嘉靖到清朝乾隆期間的兩百多年是昆曲的全盛時期，其細膩婉轉的特色，有「水磨腔」之稱。而在進入上世紀五十年代後，昆曲枯萎到瀕臨絕種，僅存的國風昆劇團流落滬杭一帶。直到「一齣戲救活了一個劇種」的《十五貫》登上舞台才扭轉了其發展的頹勢。隨後全國多個地區發起一連串搶救昆曲的文化活動，昆曲就此再次發展和流行。節目對話文學家白先勇，聽白先生講述他和昆曲《牡丹亭》之間的故事。

Kunqu is a Chinese opera genre that originated in Kunshan County, Suzhou City, in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. During the 200 years between the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Kunqu was in its prime, and its delicate and gentle character was known as the 'water mill voice'. After the 1950s, Kunqu dried up and became endangered, and the only remaining national kunqu opera teams were settled in the area of Shanghai and Hangzhou. It was not until 'Fifteen Strings of Cash' took the stage, which was also called 'a play that saved a kind of theater,' Kunqu reversed the decline in its development. Subsequently, a series of cultural activities to rescue kunqu were launched in various regions of the country, and kunqu developed and became popular again.
