Wu Dacheng is known to many as an epigrapher and philologist in the late Qing Dynasty, but the focus of this film is on him and his generation who fought to save their country. This young man who came from the family of Jiangnan nobles was one of the most outstanding politicians of his era. However, his efforts cannot make up the decay of the Dynasty, and save the country that has been left behind by modern civilization. Through Wu Dacheng, one can see a soul struggling but fighting, an era devoured by the tide of modernity.
