From urban to rural area and from streets to lanes, this programme records different distinctive custom and memorable ceremony during this festive period.
Visiting Altay in spring time (75’ HD, 2019) Altay is located at the northern end of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and is covered in snow throughout winter. It is a paradise for lovers of snow because it is on the same latitude as many popular ski resorts in Europe and America. In this frozen world, how local people celebrate their Spring Festival? Our crew travelled to Xinjiang and shot in places like Altay City, Burqin, Fuhai and Fuyun. Visiting Tongchuan in spring time (75' HD ,2018) Tongchuan is located on the southern edge of the Loess Plateau in Northern Shaanxi. On the more than 3,000 square kilometers land, it is tumbling with historical and cultural waves that have astonished the world. What changes have taken place in this city in recent years? When the revolution broke out and the base areas were established,how did the spark of fire expand? What kind of solid history did it experience? Our crew visits Tongchuan and showcases the characteristics and highlights of Tongchuan's folk culture as well as the economicand social transformation, taking the audience to taste the atmosphere of the loess land.
Bright Festive Lantern in Quanzhou (75' HD ,2017) Program focuses on the "bright city" Quanzhou, records traditional custom of Lantern Festival in different towns. It takes Festive Lanterns as the main line, illustrating the long history and special Lantern Festival atmosphere of Quanzhou through Southern Shaolin martial arts and the lanterns in Nan’an, Jinjiang, Quangang as well as the central city. Lantern Festival in Quanzhou is unique and charm as the starting point of the Silk Road, the program presents it in a vivid style.
Yan'an and Its Burning Passion (75' HD ,2016) Yan’an which is the cradle for both ancient Chinese civilization and modern Chinese revolution is known for its long and rich history. During the Chinese New Year, the crew visits Liangjiahe, a village in Yan’an where Chinese president Xi Jinping has lived for 7 years to recollect the former days where educated Chinese urban youth were sent to work in the countryside. The programme also goes inside other villages in Yan’an to discover its most unique cultural customs and traditions in celebrating the New Year, such as Ansai waist drum dance, Shanbei folk songs and paper-cut art.
Visiting the Korean Community under Changbai Mountains (80' HD ,2015) Hunchun is a city in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, China that borders North Korea and Russia. The large population of Koreans living here is still practicing the traditions of their ancestors. The crew visits Hunchun during the Chinese New Year to discover its unique delicacies, folk customs as well as natural sceneries. What’s more, the crew explores some traditional performances such as hat dance, Gayageum and bamboo flute that are well preserved by the local Koreans.
Visiting Liupan Mountain in Springtime (80' HD ,2014) On Chinese New Year’s Eve, the crew comes to Guyuan of Ningxia, where is rich in history and culture place. The integrated Chinese and Muslim culture such as the Muslim cuisine “Nine big bowl”, Muslim embroidery and the mind-blowing folk juggle adds more colour to the celebration. The crew also visits the snowy Liupan Mountain for tracing the origin of the Intangible Cultural Heritage folk song “Flower”. Let’s experience the Muslim style of New Year.
The aroma of Pu-er Tea (80' ,2013) The Phoenix TV crew visits Yunnan to explore the tradition of various Chinese ethnic minority groups including Blang, Lahu, Hani, Va and Dai at Lunar New Year. People are having loads of celebrations over Lancang Lahu Autonomous County and the highlighted event is held on the third day of Lunar New Year. There are over 50 thousand people in the county dancing and playing Luseng in high spirits around the campfire to celebrate until the next day. This traditional way of celebration is autonomously held by villagers who show their passion of life.
The Early Spring in Weinan City (80' ,2012) The Eve of Chinese New Year is not only a new start, but also the time to honour the past. Weinan City in Shaanxi, a place surrounded by picturesque nature of Mount Hua and Yellow River, is no wonder the cradle of Chinese civilization. Because of the respect for the past, the traditional customs such as the joyous clattering of gongs and drums, Qinqiang Opera and the folk sacrifice dance are well-preserved. The genuine Chinese New Year tradition is becoming scarcer but at the same time more valuable.
Feels Like Home — Qinling (80' ,2011) Yang County is situated at the bottom of Qinling in Shaanxi Province. The host is going to visit the remote mountainous area and watch Han Dynasty Opera performed by the local artists. Apart from that, worshipping ancestor with the offspring of Cai Lun, tasting traditional snacks of Southern Shaanxi and visiting the habitat of wild animals are also the show highlights.
Picturesque Youxi County (80' ,2010) Youxi County, the birthplace of Song Confucianist Zhu Xi, is lifted up by all the activities welcoming Chinese New Year. The fiery dragon dance and dragon lantern are believed to bring blessings to the town. What’s more, the Chinese percussion ensemble, Xiao-qiang Opera and String lion dance mean more than just traditions, they are instead the living cultural heritages of Fujian Province.
"White Mountain" and "Black River" — The Magnificent Landscape of the Northeast China (80' ,2009) The name of Jilin contents the meaning of lucky, so Chinese New Year is the time to get good fortune by travelling to Jilin. The Songhua River, Rime Island and Changbai Mountain are the must-visit spots ornamented by snow which highlight the charisma of Jilin. Walking along the Wula Street Manchu Town, the air is filled with the joy of the Manchu. The Manchu folk customs including harvest dance and dumpling are the distinctive ways for local people to welcome a new year and a new hope.
Walking Through Wuyuan (80' ,2008) The trip to Wuyuan during Chinese Spring Festival displays the rich traditional culture of Jiangxi. The primitive Hui style architecture, rituals of ancestor worship and the production of “Longwei inkstones” are the distinctive features. During the trip, the host was invited to play firecracker, stick Spring Festival Couplets, and join the wedding ceremony to share the happiness with the local villagers.
