60 years after the Korean War, Phoenix TV followed veterans of People's Volunteer Army, now in their eighties, and their family members across Yalu River and stepped onto the land of North Korea for a second time, the land onto which blood and tears were shed by their youthful self and brothers in arms.
A man from Henan came searching for his father he had never seen before. All he wanted to do was to bring the soil from his father’s grave back to his dying mother and let her rest in peace with something from her long lost husband.
But could he find what he came looking for? Would the veterans find the whereabouts of their friends and families? Who were buried inside the grave that North Korean officials arranged for them to visit? How did they reconcile the blood-stained land they once fought on with the modern city in front of them?
To these ordinary heroes, it is a journey of searching for their loved ones.
But to every one of us, it is a journey of soul-searching - and love.
