1959年之前，西藏長期實行政教合一的封建農奴制度，上百萬農奴處於被剝削壓迫的境地。1959年3月，中央政府宣佈解散西藏地方政府，領導西藏各族人民一邊平息叛亂一邊進行民主改革。自此，西藏百萬農奴翻身得解放，成了新社會的主人。本片深入西藏人民生活的方方面面，大到教育醫療，小到一日三餐，全方面展示如今西藏翻天覆地的變化。

Before 1959, Tibet was suffering from the feudal serf system that mingled politics with religion. Millions of serfs were under heavy oppression and exploitation.In March 1959, the Chinese central government announced the dissolution of the Tibetan local government and led the people of all ethnic groups in Tibet to quell the rebellion, while carrying out democratic reforms. Since then, millions of serfs in Tibet were set free and became the masters of the new society. From education and medical care to their daily diet, this documentary records every aspect of Tibetans life; bringing a whole image of the substantial changes that happened in Tibet.
