Introduction

The crew comes to Japan to find the craft that was created by China and was remodeled in the hands of the Japanese craftsmen and explores how did the art from China bloom in Japan generation by generation.

The program is divided into four episodes. We visit Kyoto and Nara respectively to reveal one of Japan’s most prominent ceramic families, master of temmoku glaze and his secret workshop, a time-honored ink family and a centuried writing brush store. The perfect combination of Chinese elements and conventional Japanese crafts is shown in this program. Also, it illustrates Japanese artisans’ pursuit of innovation while upholding the tradition.
